FPS Ambassadors

Ken Avery

We have known Ken since he was a young buck racing around New England “way back in the day”. He is still that bike loving kid with a dream job of designing tires and coming up with ways to make us want to ride them. Add in a wonderfully amazing wife and one of the most epically rad daughters and you will quickly see why he was part of our very first invite to be an FPS Ambassador.

Nickname : Ken Clean

Describe your riding style in six words or less. Smooth old school tech

Who taught you to ride a bike? Ken: The Moosehopper gang.

What do you do when you are not riding?

I basically draw pictures and talk about it, working as Senior VP of Product Development at Vittoria Tires. Also love surfing, skateboarding, and hiking the white mountains of NH. Pretty much anything outdoors with Tess and Rach.

What did/do you want to be when you grow up?

When I was a kid, if you told me I’d be helping people have more fun on bikes as a job, I would have flipped. Developing fun is my dream, and I’m lucky to live it.

If you could ride with anyone for a day who would it be and why?

Greg Herbold, the first downhill mountain bike World Champion. He broke ground in a sub-segment of our sport, and transitioned into product development after his racing days. I’ve always admired the path, and the fun he had along the way.

Favorite spot to chill

Anywhere near the ocean, especially in New England.

Do you ever race?

I started racing in 1992, and pretty much raced every weekend for about 20 years. These days, I’ll jump into a few events a year, but spend most of my time at races passing bottles to Tess in the feed zone.

Do you ride alone or with friends?

Both… but mostly with a crew. There is something special about sharing the outdoor experience with friends and family, which brings everyone closer together. Motion (on bikes, boards, or foot) only heightens this, as more can be seen and appreciated.
