Get On Board Grant

First Push has taken the leap with a bigger investment in skateboarding by jumpstarting Get On Board in new communities and helping to reinvigorate existing programs that need support.

Two kids adaptive skateboarding in school

Our Get On Board program aims to make a positive impact across the United States by addressing two major challenges: access to equipment and training. We provide gear, training and lesson plans to communities (these could be a single public school/district or a collection of public schools/districts) that are committed to introducing the awesomeness of skateboarding to students as part of their physical education classes. During the 2024/25 grant cycle, we awarded eighteen (18) Gear Grants and three (3) $1,000 Matching Grants.

Our gear grant idea.

Some things we can help make happen:

  • Strengthen and grow your adaptive PE curriculum with skateboarding through the Get On Board program.

  • Support schools with no gear or skateboarding experience to get up and rolling with Get On Board gear, training & resources to be successful.

  • Grow existing school programs with additional gear, training & support.

  • Provide spare parts to spruce up existing gear inventory.

  • Assist with training, lesson plans, and support if your school already has gear.

Some things we have to take a pass on:

  • Providing cash grants.

  • Politics.

  • Non-skateboarding initiatives.

  • Requests where kids are not the primary focus.

  • Sponsorship requests.

  • Non-school applicants.

  • Events.

  • Applicants that plan to monetize gear.

Who’s Getting On Board?

A staff of four (4) worked with teachers, programs, and community partners in 2024 to:

  • Support 10,175 school-age kids in skateboarding, biking & outdoor programs.

  • We trained teachers 1:1, ran workshops, and showed up as volunteers when needed to help make things happen.

  • The consumption offset created through our loaned gear is valued at $231,090. This is the retail cost that would have been required if each program had to purchase their own gear for the experiences created.

  • A program high mark of six supported programs in a single day occurred during the Spring of 2024.

  • Creating a total of 22,260 hours of student learning experiences over a total of 323 program days.

We will announce multiple grant deadlines for the coming year to streamline activation for recipients.
